Frog Fridays: Yoga in the Meadow

Today at Morning Meeting Ms. Mary was reading a book aloud and Rover and
Squeak both were listening to her eagerly.  Then, Squeak blocked Rover’s
view and Rover said “I can’t see, I need room.”  Right away, Squeak moved
so Rover could see.  Then, Rover was blocking Squeak’s view and Rover used
words.

Afterwards Northern Green Frogs talked about healthy foods with Ms. Kim as
a part of the Al’s Pals Curriculum.  Ms. Kim asked the kids about some
healthy foods and they said that cheese and chocolate were healthy foods
(in moderation).  Ms. Kim shared that she likes to eat broccoli and
mushrooms—healthy veggies!  Then, Frogs drew a mural of healthy foods with
crayons.

Green Tree Frogs read Shubert is a Star by Dr. Becky Bailey.  Since many
of them have already read this book, I had the Frogs teach Shubert how to
turn from BUG CRAZY MAD to OOZY DOOZY CATERPILLAR CALM by doing STAR,
drain, and balloon.   Afterwards, I explained there is another way to calm
down–by using a flipstick.  Each child started with a popsicle stick and
then put a sticker of a Feeling Buddy on each side—one was an upset
emotion and the other happy or calm.

Frogs and Jumpers enjoyed doing yoga in the Meadow with Ms. Melissa.  We
looked at the many trees surrounding us before we started tree pose,
balancing on one foot.  We also looked at the many things we are grateful
for in nature such as grass, trees, sun, and water.  Many children also
enjoyed finding worms under logs both in the meadow and Toad Mountain.

Some centers today were paper, pencils, and colored tape and seashells and
feathers.

Sincerely,
Mark Hekemian
